Old timers run out of steam after Callum’s hat-trick.

Dingwall, Robson, Pea, Pea and Greenwell waiting for the ball to come down.

It was expanding bellies and unfit legs, and we weren’t talking about Muers, who managed to cover his cast-iron cast with padding and a long sleeve football shirt just to hide it from Ken Street.

Nicky Smith celebrates Callum's goal.

Toddys managed to muster 13 players, which is saying something, considering that their last game in action was back in 2002. Just to top it off, Stephen Wilson renewed his predatory partnership with John Hunt and nodded the opening goal past a flapping David Simpson, who’s instructions were not to let in more than four goals in his outing.

Chris Waddle prepares to take a penalty. I let you decide what happens next.

Eventually, and thankfully, Sassco scored with Callum Howe firing in a slow shot past Darren “Gelder” Lewis in the Toddys goal. Eight years ago, and for the same shot, it would have still probably gone in. Eventually Sassco went 2-1, then 3-1 up, before Nicky Smith, announced pre-match as Team Captain, scythed down Neil Middlemiss, only to see his team captain’s penalty make Chris Waddles look like a pin-point top corner effort. Even the teams on the other side, Hall Farm and Redhouse FC, jeered his effort.

Liam Dingwall strikes a pose. Dixon misses a header.

Eventually Sassco spun ahead with a hat-trick from Callum and then single goals from Greenwell, Nick Danks (his first), David Oxley (his first), Muers and a superb chip from Campbell, who had perfected the technique on the six-a-side on Tuesday night.

Good game for Sassco as they got a confidence boosting high-scoring win, just before the season commences. Toddys will be invited for another game on the 6th August 2011.

Roker Roar suffer a heavy defeat.

Downhill Impact 4 Roker Roar 0.
Despite having Rikki Kennedy, who showed his age and lack of fitness with a poor performance, Downhill were lucky to have Jimmy Raeper aboard, and he destroyed the Roar, with a superb second half performance. Roker Roar had limited Downhill to a single goal, carrying on their stubborn performances from the last two games (both wins), but a penalty given away saw them collapse.

Seaburn Soca 2 Redhouse Storm 1.
Just as Brook Dickens was heading for the chop; the first managerial casualty of the season, a missed penalty and then an excellent long range effort saw his team take the lead against the Redhouse Storm. Eventually, after a tough battle, they managed to take their first three points.

Thanks to Dan Campbell for refereeing this game.

Sassco.co.uk 3 Redhouse Rockets 1.
Sassco, wearing an uncomfortable Umbro made England top, made an uncomfortable start as they were swamped by the Rockets – who were coming into the came on the back of a win against their fierce rivals, Seaburn Soca. Struggling to find their feet, Sassco managed to score an equaliser against the run of play and eventually struck a second goal in the second half. Breathing space was achieved when Stevie Weavie Borat hammered home the third and decisive goal.

Thanks to Brian Marley for refereeing this game.

More humiliation.

We were already struggling with players. Dan Young and David Oxley both dropped the team in it, but we managed to scrape together ten players and persuaded Dan Carson (from Impact) to don a proper Sassco shirt and embarrass himself even more.

We did have a decentish side out, but unfortunately, the performance wasn’t too different from the last two disastrous outings. Pearson, Dumb and Dumber, plus Dave Smith were missing, and all their replacements barely had a shot on target. Two errors (from me, Sangha and McConville) led to Impact breaking clear and leading 2-0.

To top it off, it was Dan Carson who scored a Brazilian Bender of a goal to put Sassco back into it.

Second half was shocking. Sums it all up when the best chance for an equaliser was my long distance drive which was around half a metre wide. Goals from Impact put them three up and eventually around four or five up, before goals from Campbell* and Graney reduced the deficit.

The final score was 6-3 to Impact.

*A great weight was taken off Campbell’s shoulders as he’d been misfiring for months, having failed to notch a goal since donning a Sassco jersey. The excellent goal he scored saw him beat several defenders before ramming the ball home. However, this was in his dreams and he just slotted the ball in a desperate fashion, having just seen the potential humiliation of seeing me actually notch on the scoresheet before him.

David Smith and Mark Muers.

Award winners: David Smith and Mark Muers. Plus Marc McDermont, symbolically hands over the leading goalscorer award.

Dave Smith almost unanimously won the Player of the Season award, with around 99.99% of the vote. Muers won the Leading Goalscorer award. Both were presented with their trophies during the recent basketball game.

There was also a symbolic “handing over” of the goalscorer award, with McDermont handing Muers the award. It’s not surprising that Sassco have underachieved when the recipients of the award were McDermont and now Muers.

Season 15 kicks off on the 2nd February. Unfortunately, only four teams will be taking part, but as with most seasons which started with a lack of teams; new teams tend to come in once it’s started.

Sassco.co.uk play Downhill Impact at 7:00pm, while Tommy Bell’s WWC team (to be renamed) will be playing the Champions, Redhouse Fusion at 7:30pm. The short season will see teams playing each other four times, and then the top two in the League, playing off against each other to decide the League winner. If more teams are added, then the format would probably change to a standard league format.

AA hit Hendon for eight and Hylton Castle fail to show.

It's all red faces, puffed cheeks and general unhealthiness as Kevin Cooper races after an IPS player.

A demoralising start to the evening occured when Hylton failed to present a team. This means that they have been removed from the league until the fine for a cancellation on the day is paid. Considering that they had only played one game meant that their result was deleted from the group and now only five teams remain in the competition – the lowest to date.

IPS 1 Wear Consulting 0
Both were closely matched teams and the score reflects that. It was only a scuffed shot from Glen Cue which ended the game in favour of IPS – their first win in the competition. The match flared up when Tyzack put in one of his many famous challenges, but that was in response to the “snap him” cries from the IPS team. It ended with hand shakes after the game. Tyzack requested that the website convey his apologies to the IPS team as some of his challenges were late and high. Very similar to the time him and Macca had a bitch fight at the back end of last season.

Josh Lay fires in a shot before Lee Ramsay can close in.

AA Fabrications 8 Hendon Rovers 0
Hendon, after their two remarkable wins last week, came crashing back down to earth when a weakened side was dismantled by AA. Josh Lay scored four goals, while Mark Moon scored two. Kurt Baxendale and Liam Wooton scored the others, but Danni Lay (not for the first time) was firing blanks again. The win settles AA firmly at the top of the table. Now it’s a battle for all teams to avoid fourth place to avoid a match up in the Semi Finals.

There are strong rumours that the Hendon 'keeper is ready to quit.

You can now easily access the results and tables by clicking on to the top menu. You can also click on the team names for further information as well as past and present fixtures.

The new Portugal Tour 2009 shirt is as shown in the image. The brand is Adidas (obviously) and the sizes are based on the requests made by the individual player. The shirt was purchased from Soccerkings, our regular supplier of low cost team wear. The numbering on the back will be the typical curved Sassco text and numbers as have appeared on the shirts since 2006.

A track top is also being produced for all players to wear on the tour. The burgundy polo shirts will also be used. Anyone refusing to wear any of the items will not be selected to play in the games (so don’t bring your Nike coat like you did last time, Dave Gourlay).
