An unexpected win for Hendon over Town End.
A great start to Season 14. After the doom and gloom over the last few weeks, the original five teams which battled in the AGUK Super League were joined by three other teams to give the league a healthy number of teams.
Wear Consulting 3 Downhill Impact 0
First honours went to Wear Consulting as they trounced a useful looking Downhill Impact team. The Wear team was as expected, but Downhill’s superstars, Logan, Mickey Pearson and Chris Taylor looked a pale shadow of themselves. Logan dropped a howler in the opening minutes, with Tyzack being rewarded as Wear never looked back. Tyzack fired in two goals before Jamie English added the third.
Hendon Rovers 3 Town End Thunder 2
Town End Thunder were high on confidence. Paul “Tyson” Stokoe’s new side looked impressive and took the game to Hendon. They raced into a two goal lead before they were pegged back by a tremendous Hendon performance. The goals from Hendon came from Ramsay and Morton. Hendon eventually grabbed the winner to make it an excellent start to their campaign against a team expected to perform well.
IPS 4 Sassco.co.uk 3
Sassco had lost both Tyson Stokoe and David Raeper to new teams, but still had a strong side out. Sangha was back in goal, due to Simpson’s absence, but his AGUK Super League winning heroics were a distant memory. A first minute goal was easily conceded and IPS defended well and counter-attacked. Sassco had the majority of the game, but were taught a lesson in their own style of play, as IPS defended and then broke forward. At the interval, the game was 2-0 in favour of IPS. In the second half, Sassco pegged it back, but IPS were always one step ahead and ran out 4-3 winners with Michael Vincent grabbing a superb hat-trick.
Redhouse Fusion 4 WWC FC 2
The final game of the night pitted Bell’s old team against his new one. AA Fabrications had split. Danni Lay and the bulk of the side are now called Redhouse Fusion, while Tommy Bell, with Raeper and Charlton on board, are called WWC FC. They also had the audacity to bring Carl Middlemiss out of retirement. However, one of the first things he saw was the ball looping over his head from his old team mate, Wooton, who scored two goals. Josh Lay also scored two to give Fusion a comfortable 4-2 win over their old masters. Redhouse Fusion are looking like a good bet to take the Title again.
For Tommy Bell, having to rope Teeb in for more agonising performances on the field and giving the growing crowd a good laugh, it seems that his plan to conquer all again could be in serious trouble. After all, with Teeb gurning throughout the thirty minutes, no one can visualise Teeb winning in the 6-a-side.
