Sassco’s 11-a-side team sprung into action in 2002, developed from a set of players from the different 6-a-side teams, who were playing in the Sassco Leagues since 1999.
The team never really achieved a great deal in terms of silverware, coming close in a final in their second season. However, the events undertaken by Sassco far surpass any other teams in their generation. Pioneering Adidas team kits from overseas, recording 11-a-side games in widescreen, customised soccer balls developed in Asia, overseas football tours and prestigious friendlies against Northern League teams and teams from outside their own leagues.
The team is still active and recently played at the Stadium of Light, as well as regular friendly games against local opponents. For one of their most recent games, five players from the original line up back in 2002 were present.
Narrow but dominant win. Champagne corks popping as Stoker misses a penalty. Chances were well missed. The loudest cheer was when Stoker stepped up and missed a penalty. The cheering came…
You want a report? Well here’s a report. Ever since Macca returned to the fold after his fling with Cambridge, the team has gone backwards. A depleted team were still more…
McDermont, cap in hand, returns to Sassco and begs forgiveness. A massively depleted squad was given an extra edge when McDermont decided to miss the 4-2 defeat against the Colliery Tavern…
Depleted squad lifted by Sangha’s first ever assist. Loads missing; not happy at all. Scott Smith is out for a while due to shin splints, Gourlay was injured, Stoker and Langan…
Stoker busts Macca’s lip. Dave and Scott Smith, plus Campbell were missing from this expected win. It didn’t start too well. We weren’t under any real threat, but the early goal…
Lack of numbers; inevitable defeat. I was as surprised as anyone on the pitch that we were 2-0 up in a difficult first half. Gourlay had struck first and Muers struck…
The new Bunker sponsored Adidas shirt for the Summer friendly games and the 2010-2011 season as well as beyond. The type is Adidas Toque and it contains the usual Sassco embroidered…
Delighted to announce that The Bunker will be taking on the role of main 11-a-side sponsor for next season. This now means that they sponsor the 11-a-side and the 6-a-side. Thanks…
Brian, as Team Secretary, has known all the background goings on within the Sassco Organisation for the last few years. Brian has always been involved in football even from an early…
In the first of a series of interviews, Michael Pearson, a long standing, original member of the team, now Assistant Coach, answers some in-depth questions. Michael was selected by General Manager,…
Sassco have been invited, and are likely to take part (in some form or another) in a training experiment involving Newcastle Science City (http://www.newcastlesciencecity.com). Eric Foch, Lead Innovater, contacted us regarding…
Apart from his goal, Emu did f**k all and now owes £24 to Durham FA. Pearson opened the scoring but I was bricking it as the nice white shirts we were…
A few weeks back, as I was getting booted around the pitch by the Lay brother’s (both not even twenty years of age at the time), I decided that it’s either…
Muer’s gets a hat-trick, but Pearson persuades Park View to give the Man-of-the-match to Langan. Yes, we may have our fancy website; the best around. We do have our over ambitious,…
Undefeated in four games with a comfortable win. The players decided to bring a Nike match ball to play with today, much to my disagreement, so much that I threatened to…
Another comeback. Sassco are widely becoming the comeback kings now. Two weeks ago, it was a 3-0 deficit, now it was a 3-1 reverse. Greenwell, after the traumatic experience of being…
Hylton won 4-2 on penalties. I’m in preparation to be hauled up and bent over in front of the discipline committee, who will take turns running along the corridor to boot…
