Season 19 in March 2018

The League, albeit in a tournament format and 5-a-side, is back in action after a long hiatus, since the summer of 2016. It’s now played over a few hours on a Saturday, in the new Everyone Active venue at Galleries, Washington on 10th March from 12:30pm to 4:00pm.

The teams involved are all veteran teams from the Sassco Leagues from 1999 to 2010:

  • Sassco.co.uk (Davinder Sangha)
  • Sporting Redhouse (Tarnjit Sangha)
  • Crown Electrics (Jeff Clark and Jon Wardle)
  • Redhouse Fusion (Josh Lay)
  • O’Brien FC (Steve Farrer)

Sassco.co.uk, Crown Electrics and Sporting Redhouse all renew their rivalry last seen over a decade ago, with similarly ancient players. The last time all played together was back in 2006. Redhouse Fusion are the clear favourites, having dominated the latter seasons with two back-to-back titles in Season 14 and 15. They were cruelly kicked out of Season 16 for failing to pay a 20p fine, in what was the last “proper” League season in 2011, before returning triumphantly for Season 17, five years later in 2015. O’Briens, or commonly known as Teeb FC, return after a few spells in the latter competitions.

Posithread won the Season 18 tournament in 2016, but won’t be taking part this time.

EveryoneActiveLogoColWashington Leisure Centre was re-launched and opened in May 2015 under the Everyone Active name. The centre, has  a six-lane 25 metre swimming pool. It also contains a multi-purpose sports hall across two levels and a gym, four-court sports hall, two glass backed squash courts, and a health suite containing a sauna and steam rooms. The centre also offers group exercise classes and kids parties. The highlight of the venue is several 5-a-side outdoor courts with the latest 3G pitches.

It’s best to park at ASDA or the Bowling Alley and walk round as it’s difficult to park in the centre car park.
