After the midweek chaos, it was back to bare bones again and near panic as Titch decided to go camping two hours before kick off. I managed to get in a replacement against the table-toppers, Washington CC, and the performance was one of the best we’ve had.
A narrow defeat with Washington’s goal coming in the last five minutes, meant we left the field with nothing. But a makeshift side performed stubbornly, with excellent outings from Tim Gillespie, Dave Smith and also Mark Muers (heaven forbid), who scored Sassco’s second goal.
The whole day was nearly overshadowed by Wayne Greenwell’s reappearance as he dropped off his missing shirt and received the usual torrent of abuse from me (wonder why he left in the first place?).
Minor hiccup before kick-off. A pile of dog turd had to be removed from the pitch, so Greenwell was nominated and stood over it like a tool with a carrier bag before Mickey Pearson did the dirty deed.
