We are now back close to the Complex. The pitch we are on is Pitch F and is located as shown above. It's a direct walk down from the changing block. Simply come out of the changing block, walk outside and around it (past the astro-turf pitch) and then through a path towards the pitch. If the gates are open on the other side of the complex, then essentially it's out of the complex door and turn left.

The Community North Sports Complex lies on the north west City boundary, 1 mile from West Boldon and runs eastward to the playing fields of Hylton Red House School. The Complex covers areas of vacant land, farmer's fields and the former football pitch of Downhill Primary School.

Phase One of the development was targeted towards the provision of outdoor playing pitches, multi-sport games areas and a floodlit synthetic sports surface. Phase Two of the development was completed in May 1999 and includes a bowling green, a children’s play area and an indoor pavilion.

The Complex is part of the programme of work undertaken by the former Sunderland City Challenge. As well as servicing the immediate community of Downhill, the Complex also provides opportunities for participation in a wide range of sporting, recreation and leisure activities for the residents of other Regeneration areas and beyond.

Facilities include:

  • 7 Outdoor Grass pitches
  • Floodlit Omni-turf
  • Outdoor 5-a-side pitches
  • Basketball Court
  • Netball Court
  • Play-park area
  • BMX Track
  • Fitness Gym
  • The Centre caters for all types of bookings including, Group Bookings, Block Bookings, Club Bookings and Special Events (Bookings can be made in person or by telephoning the Centre).
