Sassco took part in their first FA People’s Cup, a 5-a-side competition played at Goals Sunderland on Sunday 26th February, but failed to get a Quarter Final spot.

The team comprised of Kev Cooper in goal, Davinder Sangha, Curtis Newbold, Declan Boiston and Jake Dyke outfield. We wore the red AWDis shirts from Just Cool by Awdis and printed by Workwear Express.

The first game caught us a bit cold. Two mistakes led to two goals, but we managed to respond to each with an equaliser. Eventually, we went 3-2 ahead and eventually 4-2, including having a goal disallowed. Great saves from Cooper, combined with a brace each from Boiston and Newbold.

The second game saw us against the stronger looking team in the group, and once again, we went 1-0 down, before Newbold struck the equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

We were on straight after against a team which seemed to be the weakest. However, we struggled to create chances (as did the opponents), but as the game was heading into a 0-0 draw, they struck from distance and we failed to find a way back into the game and were eliminated with a 1-0 defeat.
