Sassco before the Northumbria University Officer Training Corp game

Sassco travelled to the beyond (i.e. Walker Dome) to take on the Northumbria University Officer Training Corp team. A team which we somehow defeated 6-1 last year, albeit with what we’d consider a much stronger team.

This time we cobbled together a team. It was supposed to be a training game for our 11-a-side at the SOL, but we only had half the team there. McConville was a late drop out due to illness, but we borrowed a cast off striker from Mark Midd’s Corp team.

When it kicked off, we were stuck in our own half and they inevitably scored. However, we broke not long after when Macca set up their cast off, JP, who scored easily. We soon went 3-1 up with the aforementioned JP scoring another two. Macca claimed he had two assists. Mark Midd toe poked a long range effort past Cooper to make it 3-2, before the half ended.

Second saw Sassco struggle. The momentum had been broken by the break, but soon after, Cooper went off injured. This meant Smith was back in goal. We were pegged back to 3-3 before Cooper went off, and Dave S had a giggle at Sangha making an error to allow them score another. We all then had a giggle when Smith let one through his legs to end the game 5-3 to the opponents.

Six players from the SOL game were there, but three had played a 5-a-side in the morning, which took the edge off. The team was Cooper in goal, Chris Green at right back, Jake Dyke (who had a good game) at centre-half with Dave Smith. Sangha left back. Midfield was Macca, Dixon, Newbold and Elliot. Up front was the evergreen Hembrough and the mysterious JP.
