It's Israel in 2018. We'll be taking a bunch of non-believers to the Holy Land, where, hopefully, with an epiphany, they will manage to secure at least three points in the series of games.

The venue is Tel Aviv, where we will be taking part against opponents: Soccer Stars, Issta Sports and Milan Club Israel, sourced by the resourceful Elad Levin, who is also going to be arranging a Beach Footvolley game for us as well.

The five players travelling on the 8th March will be David Gourlay, Chris Dixon, Tim Gillespie, Davinder Sangha and debutante, Dan Smith. So, while Israel conquered the Middle-East in six days, I expect Dave Gourlay to do it in four.

We're playing the official version of "Footvolley" in Tel Aviv.

Our half arsed attempt at normal volleyball on our France Tour 2013 will be a distance memory when we'll be allowed to use our feet in Beach Footvolley in Tel Aviv.

Footvolley was conceived by Octavio de Moraes in 1965 in Brazil. Footvolley is simply beach volleyball, but players have to use their feet and not hands

Check out the UK Footvolley websitePoints are awarded if the ball hits the ground in the opponents court, if the opponents commit a fault, or if they fail to return the ball over the net. Scoring is done using the rally point system (new volleyball rules). Match scoring is usually up to the event organizer's discretion. Generally speaking matches are one set to 18 points; or best of three sets to 15 points (with third set to 11 points). The court is usually 29.5 feet x 59 ft (old beach volleyball). The height of the net varies based on the competition. The Official International Rule for the net height set is 2.2 meters or 7 feet 2 inches for the men's competition.

So, we now have time to tone up for the game against our hosts' college. Dixon has time to increase the growth of that tuft of hair on his chest, Dave will blend in, but even his vast amount of hair might cause a stir.

Three game series in The Holy Land.

The first games have been arranged in Tel Aviv and will most likely be taking place at a venue called Goal Time, located in Kfar Saba, north of Tel Aviv.

First contacts are Elad Levin and David Bernstein. Elad runs the team, Soccer Stars, while David organises Olim Football, which is a football coordinating organisation.

The opponents sourced by Elad Levin are as follows:

  • Soccer Stars
  • Issta Sports
  • Milan Club Israel

Obviously, like all tours, the dates and times will change closer to the event, but this is a starting point. We land in Tel Aviv at 18:35 on Thursday the 8th March and leave late afternoon on Sunday the 11th March. Temperature in Tel Aviv at that time is on average 23 degrees.

Tel Aviv 8 1

Finally, we'll be setting foot on hallowed ground in the Summer of 2018, with Tel Aviv being the venue. Israel was actually an early choice back in 2009/2010, but other, more local venues won out in the end. Flights will be from Manchester and it could be one of the final tours, as me and Dave aren't getting any younger.

The confirmed date is now 8th to 11th March in 2018, with five confirmed players in Dave Gourlay, Davinder Sangha, Chris Dixon, Tim Gillespie and a debut for Dan Smith.
