Major changes to the tour.
Saturday, 17 July 2010 13:11

Having had six so-called "guaranteed" entrants, we were narrowed down to four, due to two last minute (and expected) drop outs.

This means major changes. We can't really afford to pay an agent to arrange the games as the costings were around £150 upwards and getting higher due to lack of players.

We are going to Barcelona now on the same days. The flight costs are lower than Isla Canela tour. The hotel cost will average at around £100 (no more) per person, based on four sharing a large apartment.

The plan is to contact local clubs, forums, etc. in Barcelona to try and arrange at least one game against a five a side team, plus sourcing a local goalkeeper from there. We are already in contact with two parties. One is an ex-pat who plays regular five-a-side out there and the other is company which has links with futsal teams.

Whatever happens, Davinder Sangha, Tim Gillespie, Dave Gourlay and Scott Hembrough will be travelling to Barcelona for the 22nd.

Hotel Isla Cristina

Now fixed on the  22nd to 25th October, due to cheaper flights. Based on 13 people, the actual flight costs will be £134.60.

Accommodation (to be confirmed) is the Oasis Hotel, based on twin sharing, plus one triple (all to be confirmed and could change closer to the time).

Transfers from Faro Airport to Hotel and return on departure (around 40 minute drive).

Provisionally 3 matches with referees.

  • Friday v CD Canela at the Estadio Municipal in Ayamonte
  • Saturday v CF Ayamonte Veterans. Venue to be confirmed.
  • Sunday v Destination Football at the Estadio Municipal in Ayamonte.

Based on 13 persons, the hotel price and transport, with games, etc. will cost £141.

Flights, as mentioned, cost around £134 (if we have 13 people - any more or less; the price will go down or up), so total cost for the tour will be around £275 to £285. The only thing not included is transport back from each game, but that won't cost too much as the venues are near to the hotel.

Spain Tour 2010 shirt.

The sleeveless shirt for the next tour. This has been purchased already. Printing and logos have been decided, as Spain is our eventual destination. It's likely that Red Fox will sponsor us again for the tour.

Spanish option.

Spain Tour 2010

The first option for Spain is organised by Teamlink, who organise similar tours. It will be based at Lloret de Mar, which is close to Barcelona. Tour would be a four day tour with two fixtures. Cost, including flights, would be £329 per person. The hotel is classed as Silver accommodation and would include breakfast.

We will be waiting for a price from Gary Thomas, who organised the Portugal Tour. That will be published as the second Spanish option.

Italian option.

Italy Tour 2010

The only option for Italy is organised by Pierre Azzorpardi, the same person who arranged the Malta Tour. It will be based at Pisa, which has direct flights from Newcastle. Although the flights have not been yet published for next year.

The tour would be three nights with two fixtures. The per-person cost, would be €155 per person. This does not include flights. I assume the flights costs won't be anything more than £130 to £150. We've been assured that the hotel will be of a good standard, including a pool.

2010 tour destination probabilities.
Tuesday, 27 October 2009 18:41

Five destinations have been earmarked for Sassco's 2010 tour overseas. They are in order of probability. Cyprus seems to be the most likely choice with Spain a close second. More information will be added over the next few months. Attempts will be made to keep the cost to less than £300 per person.

Cyprus Logo

The aborted Cyprus Tour in 2007 is now revived. Contact has been made with two organisations who would be ideal to arrange the venues and the opponents. We would arrange our own flights to Paphos. The flight schedules have not been released yet for October 2010. We may have to fly from Manchester with EasyJet as their flights combined with a hotel would be much cheaper than actually choosing a different airline. Once the flights are availble and the costings are calculated, it's 70% that we'll be going to Cyprus.

Spain logo

Gary Thomas, who arranged our Portugal Tour, will be making the inroads into Spain to organise a similar tour for us there. Again, flights would fly from Newcastle, probably to Faro in Portugal and then bus over the border into Spain.

France Logo

Nice in France was an initial venue. Attempts to contact local teams over there haven't produced the goods yet. Contact has been made with the local FA, who have said that November would be the time to contact them regarding possible opponents, etc. Flights would be from Newcastle to Nice.

Italy Logo

Pisa in Italy is the preferred destination due to direct flights from Newcastle. No responses to any emails with local contacts.

Israel Logo

All depends on if EL AL, the national airline, will provide discounted flights from Manchester for us to Israel. A sports centre in Tel Aviv would host us for the games.
