February 2006
Crown's comeback!
Southwick, Hylton Castle and Sporting gain
easy wins.
A
good start to the new season. All teams were well organised and
fully kitted. Only let downs were Stubba not having his subs and
Redhouse Youth scarpering off without any match fees paid. The new
teams equipped themselves well and played very well, with Southwick
and Millfield gaining good starts, while Southview held off the
Treble Winners with only one goal conceded. Please note that next
week, due to Valentine's Day, there are no games. Click

Southwick FC 2 Sassco.co.uk 0
Davinder Sangha, in goal for Sassco, was probably
at fault for both Southwick goals; first one - a bad throw out;
second one - megged early in the second, but overall I pulled off
some superb saves to keep the scoreline low. Southwick, controlled
by Billy Harrison, were excellent. Quick, one touch passing pulled
Sassco's aging legs here and there, but the old timers, Dixon, Sammut
and Amour did reasonably well considering Garrett, Mouat and Tyzack
were missing. Southwick scored both their goals either side of the
half and never really looked like losing.
Crown Electrics 3 Millfield Diamonds 3
A stunning game. Crown,
notorious for starting slow were caught on the hop by an enthusiastic
Millfield side. The two sides had met in the last cup competition,
which saw Crown win easily 4-0. This time it was the opposite. Millfield
were clinical, while Crown missed chance after chance. Eventually,
when 3-0 up, Millfield conceded one in the second half, then another
and then late in the game, Jamie Wilson apparently stepped into
the box. He claimed he was pushed, but it seemed more like momentum
as he didn't seem to complain when he was in the box. However, it
was disputed, but Greenwell scored to give Crown a share of the
points.
Hylton
Castle 4 Redhouse Youth 0
A disheartened Youth team suffered a heavy and surprise
opening day defeat. Hylton Castle were outstanding and proved why
they are amongst the top four teams in the League and one favoured
to do quite well this year. From the off, both teams were at it,
but Castle had the edge in attack - a place where the Youth's continually
struggle in. A great win for Castle as they now head the table.
Sporting
Redhouse 1 Southview 0
Sporting dominated from start to finish. An early
goal wasn't capitalised on, mainly due to Kevin McKlusky's performance
between the sticks for Southview. Brian Marley's team rallied in
the second half, but were resorting to long range efforts at the
other end, while all sorts of body parts were getting battered at
the other end in blocking the striking prowess of the Traitor, Critter
and Walker. A "professional" win for Sporting, who aim
to retain their Title this season.
